As I've mentioned in recent posts, we've been thinking a lot about expanding our rabbit production. After thinking about it for a while, we decided we didn't want to build a large, indoor rabbitry, mostly because of the smell and manure handling issues. Instead, we're trying out pastured rabbit again, but this time with a different (yet similiar setup). For the prototype, we're reusing an old pastured rabbit pen, but we've now completely enclosed the bottom with chicken wire. The hope is that it is now predator proof. We're also only putting 4-5 week old weaned rabbits in the pens, when they're at a size that makes it more difficult for them to escape through small holes. The roof it covered, mostly just using stuff we had lying around, and will need to be improved in future versions. If all goes well, these nine rabbits will be ready to slaughter in 8 weeks.
