Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. Here are 10 glorious reasons to buy a Thanksgiving Dinner Basket from Thoughtful Food.

1. Eat Local for Thanksgiving. King County has a website challenging you to eat one locally grown item for Thanksgiving. With a Thanksgiving Basket, your entire Thanksgiving meal is grown at one farm right here in Puget Sound.

2. Rejoice in an Ultra-pasture-ized Turkey. Each Thanksgiving box will include a heritage turkey that has been raised with a ton of care. We not only give our turkeys access to fresh air, but we move them to a new fresh spot every day. It takes extra work, but it makes for happy, healthy, and hearty turkeys.

3. Eat your Greens with that Turkey Leg. While you'll be able to make traditional high calorie foods like mashed potatoes and gravy from your basket ingredients, but you'll also have plenty of fresh leafy greens like kale, collard greens, and Brussel sprouts to balance out the gluttony.

4. Donate to Families in Need. Give Thanks for your good fortune and help to give those in a need a fantastic Thanksgiving meal with a Thanksgiving Box donation.

5. Environmental Stewardship. A salmon bearing stream runs through our farm and we feel we have a responsibility to protect it. We've planted native plants, don't use pesticides, move are animals frequently so that they spread out their manure and thus minimize runoff, and keep the animals well away from the stream edge. With a bit of luck, you'll get to see the salmon run when you pick up your basket.

6. Support Small Farm Innovation. We think that the key to sustainable agriculture is sustainable small farms. While farming is definitely hard work, it shouldn't be a road to poverty. We constantly try new things and share our successes and failures on our blog. The Thanksgiving Box is one such innovative idea.

7. Revel in a Humanely Raised Turkeys. We try to think like a turkey so that we can make sure they are in conditions that promote their welfare. Thus, they have areas to roost, areas for shade, fresh pasture so that they're not sitting in their manure, and clean, deeply bedded brooders. They're also slaughtered on the farm to minimize their stress. Less stressed animals also taste better.

8. One word: Leftovers. We're packing so much food into your Thanksgiving Basket that you're almost guaranteed to have leftovers. You'll have the choice to cook up all the ingredients into a massive smorgasbord with plenty of leftovers to share with your family and friends and/or leave some veggies off the chopping block and cook them up later. Since most of the basket items store well, you'll have plenty of leftover options.

9. Reusable Totes. Your Thanksgiving Dinner Basket will come lovingly packed in 2-3 high quality reusable totes. Better than plastic bags and more useful than boxes.

10. Celebrate the true meaning of Thanksgiving. This statement may be cliche (at least when used in reference to Christmas), but it speaks to an important point. Thanksgiving (our favorite holiday) is an opportunity to celebrate food and the awe-inspiring bounty of nature. It's also an opportunity to share in that celebration with friends and family.

We hope that we've convinced you that our Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets are worthwhile investment. If you would like to reserve one or donate one, you can do so here. If you're convinced but not eating locally this year, we encourage you to share this post with those who might be interested. As a new farm in our first year, our biggest challenge is reaching new people. Thank you!
